A composite of well-known themes from Russian classical composers, including Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture; the long exciting final few minutes, with Ruskin’s hot licks making you wish it was a lot longer, is from Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kije Suite.
Carol of the Bells
19th Century Ukranian carol. See also George Winston’s spinetingling version on his “December” album, which credits Fahey as an influence.
Christmas Fantasy Part One
Includes phrases from Bola Sete’s Lonely Gaucho, the first recorded appearance of the influence of the Brazilian guitarist in Fahey’s work.
Christmas Fantasy Part Two
Includes the hymn In the Bleak Mid-Winter, the tune of which was composed by Gustav Holst specifically for Christina Rosetti’s poem.
The Christmas Fantasy 1 & 2 incorporates at least 5 melodies, including O Come Emmanuel and In the Bleak Midwinter.
